The TheWay RO-4040 is a 4-inch diameter spiral wound reverse osmosis membrane element designed for small commercial, light industrial, and pilot-scale desalination and water purification systems. The compact 4040 form factor fits standard 4-inch pressure vessels and delivers reliable salt rejection and permeate flow for brackish water desalination, process water production, and small-scale seawater treatment.
Key Specifications
Operating Parameters
Performance Description
The RO-4040 delivers 99.5% NaCl rejection at standard test conditions (2,000 ppm NaCl, 15.5 bar, 25°C, 15% recovery, pH 7.5). For brackish water applications (2,000–5,000 mg/L TDS), operating pressures of 10–18 bar produce permeate TDS below 50 mg/L. Temperature correction factor is approximately 3% flux change per °C. The element stabilizes within 24–48 hours of operation, with final rejection typically exceeding the nominal specification.
Chemical Compatibility
Storage and Handling
Elements ship wet in 1% SMBS preservative in sealed polyethylene bags. Store at 5–35°C; never freeze. Use within 12 months of manufacture. Before installation, flush preservative with low-pressure permeate or RO-quality water. For shutdown > 48 hours, re-preserve with 0.5% SMBS at pH 3–6. Always handle elements horizontally and avoid impact on end caps and brine seal.
FAQ
Q: How does the RO-4040 compare to industry-standard 4040 elements?
A: The TheWay RO-4040 is dimensionally identical to standard 4040 elements and fits all standard 4-inch pressure vessels. Performance is comparable to leading manufacturers at a competitive price point.
Q: What pre-treatment is required?
A: Feed SDI must be < 5. Recommended pre-treatment includes multimedia filtration or UF, antiscalant dosing, and dechlorination (activated carbon or SMBS dosing) if chlorinated water is used.
Q: Expected element lifespan?
A: 3–5 years typical, depending on feed water quality, operating conditions, and cleaning frequency.
