The TheWay RO-8040 is a full-size 8-inch diameter spiral wound reverse osmosis membrane element engineered for large-scale industrial and municipal desalination, water reclamation, and high-purity process water production. The 8040 format is the industry standard for commercial RO systems, offering maximum membrane area per element for cost-effective operation at scale.
Key Specifications
Operating Parameters
Performance Description
The RO-8040 delivers 99.7% NaCl rejection at standard test conditions (2,000 ppm NaCl, 15.5 bar, 25°C, 15% recovery). In multi-element pressure vessels (typically 6–7 elements per vessel), system recovery of 75–85% is achievable for brackish water with proper antiscalant dosing. The 34-mil feed spacer provides enhanced fouling resistance and lower pressure drop compared to standard 28-mil spacers, making it suitable for challenging feed waters with moderate fouling potential.
Chemical Compatibility
Storage and Handling
Elements ship wet in 1% SMBS preservative. Store at 5–35°C; never freeze or exceed 45°C. Use within 12 months. Flush preservative before installation. For shutdowns > 48 hours, re-preserve with 0.5% SMBS. Handle horizontally; the 16 kg weight requires two-person lifting. Avoid impact to end caps and interconnectors.
FAQ
Q: How many RO-8040 elements fit in a standard pressure vessel?
A: Standard 8-inch pressure vessels hold 6 or 7 elements. A 7-element vessel produces approximately 238 m³/day of permeate under brackish water conditions.
Q: Is the RO-8040 compatible with other manufacturers' 8040 elements?
A: Yes. The TheWay RO-8040 follows standard industry dimensions and interconnector specifications, allowing direct replacement in existing systems.
Q: What pre-treatment is recommended?
A: UF or multimedia filtration to achieve SDI < 5, antiscalant dosing, and dechlorination. TheWay UF Hollow Fiber modules are an excellent pre-treatment solution.
